Updated: Oct 17, 2022

Before we get started, what exactly is a target audience?

Why finding the right target audience matters

Since it's hard to reach everyone at once, concentrating on a small group of key target customers will help you create an efficient marketing plan. It assists your business in developing a messaging plan that speaks directly to the kinds of consumers who are most likely to become clients. For instance, Google Ads let you target consumers based on their preferences.

Step 1: Age

What age range is your target customer?

18-24

25-34

35-44

45-54

55-64

65+

Step 2: Gender

What gender are most of your target audience?

Female? Male? Both?

Step 3: Location

Where do they live?

Are you targeting an entire country, just a state, or specific cities?

Step 4: Hobbies and Interests

What hobbies are they into? Are they home owners? High income earners? Do they also like the competitor's product or service? There's an infinite amount of interests and hobbies to go after.

Step 5 Market Landscape

Market landscape. Where do they "live" online.

Options are places such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, email, blog site, etc. If your target audience spends most of their time on TikTok, you wouldn't run ads on Facebook would you?
